Compiling the development version of STK Evolution
#1
There are no officially distributed testing binaries at this stage of development. Both code and assets are still a long way from what STK Evolution aims at.

However, some preliminary track updates and new tracks, as well as a majority of the planned racing gameplay changes, are available to people willing to compile the game themselves.

It is recommended that you already be familiar with how to build the normal version of the game before proceeding.

The code can be found on GitHub in a dedicated branch. It will be merged in the master branch later, after 1.5's release. This code is compiled following similar instructions to the regular version.

It also requires a few assets change. The simplest way however is to grab assets at Fouks repository. They contain the assets patch necessary for the new code to work, as well as alpha versions of a few new tracks and preliminary updates to some existing tracks. Have this stk-assets folder instead of the one from SVN next to the folder with stk-code when launching the built executable.

The full assets change required to run the Evolution branch as of now are available as an attachment to this post.

(1) Extract the .zip
(2) Copy the contents in the normal stk-assets (the content of the "library" folder from the .zip goes into stk-assets library folder, and so on)

Please note that, as of the latest commit, configuration as well as various utility folders (replays, custom GPs, addons...) are located in a dedicated Evolution folder instead of sharing the standard SuperTuxKart folder.

You can manually copy your main config from /supertuxkart/config-2.X-dev (or equivalent for your OS) to /supertuxkart-evolution/config-alpha (or equivalent for your OS) to retain any existing user data.

The use of distinct folders helps to keep things better organized, and, for things such as replays, to avoid one version wasting time trying to load incompatible content.
