Sure, you can give it a shot. Think of doing it in.svg and of making the source file available, this would make it easier to update it later if needed.

You should probably give a read to the Kiki icon redesign thread.

I'll quote here the most important bit:

You can see unlike the old icons it's a very close match to the actual character model (...)
Goddete's icon also has a lot of details and shading
