Kiki's icon redesign
#1
Here is my first attempt of the new Kiki icon made through GIMP.
My second attempt will be made on Inkscape.

I'm not going to tell you how to make a good icon, because that's not my area of knowledge.

But you know yourself that your WIP is still very far from what would make a good icon. Should you continue? It depends on your goals, on your skills and on how much time you want to spend on it.

But an icon meant to replace the existing one would need to be better than it. This means lines with proper width, good coloring, etc. Also if you look at your outline, there is only one bundle on Kiki's head where there should be two.

Doing it through GIMP gave me wobbly lines which no one wants, and it was impossible to add shadows, colours, or even adjust the sizing, I had to use an online tool to fix the size. I spent five days struggling with just that.

This project will be moved to Inkscape.

I'm surprised you tried using GIMP for this, as you mentioned Inkscape in the PM you sent me a few days ago.

GIMP is not great for drawing things.

Hello Alayan

I'm sending you the icon for Kiki in three different sizes. I did some changes and made it better than what I had before, it wasn't easy. I wasn't happy with the last one I did and that is why I didn't send it. Hopefully this one is okay.

I'm rather positively surprised by how the icon turned out in the end. The eyes look quite nicer than the current icon and I rather like it overall.  Smile

I think there is still some room for further improvement, but someone with better knowledge about icon design than me would have to put into words how to do that.

Also, perhaps share the .svg or if you want more people to easily look at it, one medium resolution icon? It's not super useful to export small versions of the icon, simply zooming out in any proper image viewer allows to see how it would look when smaller.  Big Grin

I think the icon is quite good Smile But it has some problems that should be improved.
I like the style of Godette's icon, that would be how I would like the icons for STK Evolution to look like.
You can see unlike the old icons it's a very close match to the actual character model, yours is also quite close to the model so that is good. (the only thing might be that the face is a bit too long, I think the chin of the character model is a bit higher).
Goddete's icon also has a lot of details and shading, your icon is missing a bit of that so that would be a place to improve things. A few highlights and shadows will really help to give the icon more depth.
Your icon should also have some clearer lines, you can make them thicker and also darker, especially around the eyes.

Hello Sven,

I have updated the Kiki icon as you mentioned, and I have tried it on the game. It looks pretty good. I will leave it to you to see what you think. Let me know if there are any other modifications.

Nice good update!

I think the shading could still be improved a bit, especially adding some highlights should help.
