Some of the characters in SuperTuxKart are starting to show their age, and I think it's time to updates them.
Nolok, Puffy, Pidgin, and Suzanne still have the outdated bodies from the 0.7.0 era, even though their karts have been updated. Their bodies should be more graphical and animated to match the other modern characters. In Suzanne's case, her kart needs redesigning.
Wilber, Hexley and Tux gust need a little polishing and face fixing to match the modern standards. As for Xue, she requires texture smoothing on both her body and kart.
Most of all, Amanda and Gavroche are in most need of remaking. Their models lack textures, lacks facial depth (flat faced), and very minimal animation. A full remake would be great in making them feel alive and part of the modern STK roster.
Please add some love to these characters and make the game more fun and alive.
Yes, we are aware that some character models are lacking in quality or animation, and karts such as Nolok, Puffy, Amanda or Gavroche are examples in this regard. Improving the quality of karts to raise the standard across official STK karts is part of our goals for the next major release.

When it comes to the model, Puffy's last major upgrade was for 0.6.1, for Nolok and Pidgin it was in 0.6.2. If you compare directly the latest versions and how the karts looked in those older versions, you can notice a number of iterative improvements that together make some difference (especially as a kart is not just about the 3D model), but the designs certainly feel dated.
@Sven! (don't know if we can @ people. I haven't used a forum in ages) I am certainly not a blender pro, but I was curious if I could spent some time to assist with updating some of the older assets in the game, per this thread. This is a WiP of Puffy's kart, still needing a day or two, then retopo and texturing. I am mostly doing it now cause I am killing time for my PRs to get reviewed on other stuff.
Yeah sure help with 3D art is always welcome, and jugding by the picture you should easily be able to contribute good improvements models.
For this kart model in particluar: I think it looks cool, it might have a bit too many details compared to other STK karts, but I'm not sure we'll have to test the kart in game to see.
You'll defenitely have to bake almost all details to normal and ao maps because otherwise the polycount will be way too high.
Funny enough, after taking a couple days off to just get better at playing the game, I decided that the fish maybe shouldn't have a mad max looking kart lol
I have been chatting with another discord member for a few days and we have been passing around different sketches. I think I have settled on a fishbowl design, kinda. With a more aerodynamic fishy shape, with far fewer greebles
I will likely spend a few more days trying to nail something get some blocked out concepts made, and post them in their own thread! Disregard my terrible sketches here and in the new thread. I am not an artist
