Honestly, I would say that in general there aren't that many unused things for SuperTuxKart.
We don't have too many resources, so we can't really create too many things that we don't use. And some external content (tracks, karts...) that someone else made, that was considered for inclusion, but didn't make the cut, wouldn't fit the classification either. Of course, new tracks, new models, etc. always go through multiple steps of improvements before the final version is ready, but digging our archives for half-finished content feels a bit too much like extra work. Back in 2018, I remember that Sam had a Cyberpunk track concept. It looked horrendous without dynamic lights (back then, my PC was too weak to run them at decent framerates) and I wasn't too happy about the gameplay design, but Sam left the project for several years afterwards, so it never went anywhere. (Also, I moved this thread to the general forum - it asks about things related to the development process, but doesn't really fall into the intended purpose of suggestions, feature discussion, etc. of the development forum)

There is TONS of things that never quite made it into the game. I have probably a 10 GB archive of concepts, tracks never released. Most of them are boring almost empty or with just few blocks used to test concepts. Many you would recognize because they ended up being used in certain sections of existing track, even the spin off supertuxzero used to be a a test we made with python a decade ago of a terminal game.
Maybe one day we release an art book for our patreon supports or a pdf explaining some of the lore. But good news some of it is coming into evolution. The cyberpunk track was also inspired a very old existing track. see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pvVU7puHtI

I remember there being a mention of a test track called "Nolok's Castle" in an old blog post. Is there any info available about it or was it simply just a placeholder for unreleased tracks?

My guess would be that it was just a nickname for Fort Magma, since Fort Magma is supposed to be the siege of Nolok's power.

It would make sense as well, considering Fort Magma was (presumably) going through a major overhaul at the time, between 0.7 and 0.8. |
