[QUESTION] About assets sizes
#1
Question
Can you explain me one thing - Why are all assets - houses, people, animals, plants, etc. so big on tracks? Huh They are not fit to the sizes of the characters on the karts. When I drive along the tracks i always think - Why everything is so big here? All tracks are so beautifully made, but there is no feeling of awareness that these tracks are created for the characters. Right now it feels as if they are just some strangers who accidentally drove into a places that not belongs to them.  Undecided

And because everything is so big, I can't enjoy the beauty of the tracks on the fullest because everything is too high, so i have to drive back to get better look at some objects.

I just thought maybe you would consider this question and maybe adjust the sizes? Blush

In any case, i just sharing with you my thoughts Big Grin I love this game, it's very enjoyable to play Shy

In some tracks, such as Maths Class, the difference in scale is considerable and intentional.

The more problematic cases are perhaps those where the scale difference isn't so huge that it feels deliberate, but still big enough to be perceived. I agree it can be a bit strange when there is a mismatch between the size of the characters and the environment, and I made a remark yesterday to Sven and Mish about how assets of the same type (say, people) can be scaled inconsistently from one track to the next (compare the woman in Candela City with people in Gran Paradiso Island).

If I had to guess, I would say that a major reason for making things bigger than they should theoretically be is to ensure that they are visible.

If you pay attention (or test manually with splitscreen to directly control two karts), you'll notice that other karts become small and difficult to see in details rather quickly. Increasing the size of models help to see them from farther away and to better notice their details.

Another way to resolve the apparent mismatch would be to make the karts bigger, but longer and especially wider karts would affect gameplay significantly. Tracks are designed for STK's karts, and karts are designed for STK's tracks.

Hmm... I always thought it was made with an idea that the karts are toys or something, like toys in Pixar's Toy Story or some other kind of cartoon of that kind.
And yeah, if you think they are not toys, then of course that other stuff is too big…
