I have written a small guide on how to measure SuperTuxkart's performance, which you can now find on STK's website.

It documents the usual methods of using the FPS toolbar and the benchmark available since 1.5 with their advantages and disadvantages, and it also explains how you can use a custom replay to get a repeatable and comparable performance test on any track you want.
Let me know if you have questions or suggestions!

Hi everyone,

my name is bitflip, I'm from Sweden, and a big fan of SuperTuxKart! I've been playing a lot and recently set up my own dedicated STK server to host races with family and friends. It's running smoothly otherwise, great ping from Europe!

The Issue:
In the online server browser, my server displays the Iranian flag instead of the correct German one.

The server is physically hosted in Nürnberg, Germany (Hetzner).
If I check it with some IP tools, it shows the correct location. Only in STK it shows the wrong one.

Details:

Server Name: Bitflips STK Server DE|SE|CH (private)

Public IP: 91.98.127.215

Server Version: 1.5

This is likely a GeoIP database mapping error (wrong country assignment for this IP range?).

Request:
Could the devs (whoever handles the GeoIP data/flags) please investigate and fix the mapping? An update to the embedded GeoLite/GeoIP DB would probably solve it for me and others with similar IPs. Happy to provide more logs/screenshots if needed!
Thanks a lot in advance and thanks for your great work!

cheers!
I guess this rule is very stupid in case of "multicontroller" players, because the level of hability of playing in Mobils is higher (without speedometer, hard controls, etc, etc), so I guess this rule can be removed in case of the player uses a account that suggests that this guy is in Mobile (like MobileCream (MOBILE) and CreamBR (PC)).

Hello.

I'm having trouble finding information about the server setup. I did follow the guide on Github and was able to get it installed on Debian 13.

This is running in a VM I gave it 4 cores @ 2.6Ghz and 4G of ram.

Install seems to work fine. Local play is solid. WAN is not. I forwarded TCP/UDP to 2757 - 2759.

When I try to from outside the LAN (Hotspot) I can see the attempt on the server but it times out.

I have double checked that iptables and UFW are not installed PFSense is the only firewall

I've been back and forth through the config and even forced the port to 2759. I show it used that at launch.

It shows up in the server list
Stuck. Please help

Hi, thanks for making this great little game!
I have never played games but my kids are having a hard time at the moment so I thought I'd find them one game I can install on Linux to help pass the time.
I can't work out how to do 2 player. they would LOVE this. I am on Fedora. I can't understand the settings, I tried setting up 2 players, tried plugging in a second USB keyboard, got nowhere. Is it doable?

Also, is it possible to use game controllers, for example if I bought a couple of used Playstation 1 controllers off ebay or whatever, would they work?

thanks again

(server mode) AI karts still driving like noobs

Hello

I've configured a LAN server to play with friends, all is okay, the server is providing races in supertux level. However, I want to add some AI karts when to few persons are connected (e.g. when there is only 2 human players, the server adds 3 AI players). It's working fine but AI karts are very weak, they seems to be novice players.
I've tried everything, including settings last-speed-cap="0:5.0" (speed x5) in stk_config.xml but nothing changed. Please, can someone tell me what to do to improve those IA karts, at least to SuperTux level) ?

Server start:
./run_game.sh --server-config=/opt/stk/server-lantest2.xml --disable-polling

Client start:
./run_game.sh --connect-now=127.0.0.1:2759 --network-ai=3 --no-graphics --difficulty=3 --disable-polling

Note that if I try to move stk_config.xml somewhere else and add the parameter 'stk-config=..." the client doesn't find the file:
[error ] StkConfig: FATAL ERROR while reading '':
[fatal ] StkConfig: Cannot find file

Thank you

Here is the content of server-lantest2.xml:

Thank you

SuperTuxKart has a built-in benchmark starting with version 1.5-beta. While it doesn't capture all the things that can challenge performance (such as network rewinding), it's still a useful measure of how performant your computer is with STK.

It's also useful for the STK team to know what kind of hardware is used to play the game and what performance people have, although we aim at not making the game more demanding than Black Forest currently is.

In this thread, share your own results! And let us know what kind of hardware, OS, etc. you ran the test on. If you used Vulkan, If you want to test with multiple different settings to compare, that's even better.

Also please note that if you are using Vulkan, the parameter list at the end of the test will be misleading. Even at the same settings, there are some visual differences compared with the GL renderer.

On Linux, using a 13600K and a RTX 2060S, at graphics 6, I get 102/152/171 at 1080p and 79/114/127 at 1440p.

Hi,

I started playing STK1.4 a few months ago on Debian using its packages. In races chats I heard about Godette, but for me this kart is missing.

According to https://github.com/supertuxkart/stk-code...ANGELOG.md and https://blog.supertuxkart.net/2022/09/ it should be a new standard kart in STK1.4

It is neither listed in https://github.com/supertuxkart/stk-code..._karts.xml nor included in http://svn.code.sf.net/p/supertuxkart/co...ets/karts/

As there are no references and no assets for Godette it cannot be included I guess, but why was it announced for 1.4 and even improved for 1.5? What's going on?
